Principles of Representative Democracy and the Wealth and Want in the US

Essay Instructions:

First, you must read chapter one from the book the Struggle for the Democracy by Edward Greenberg's, and then you should identify and fully describe and discuss the three fundamental principles of representative democracy as discussed by the authors of The Struggle for Democracy.
Then you should read chapter 4 form the book: Democracy for the few, 9th edition, by Michael Parenti's, and explain how Dr. Parenti defines "Wealth" and "Want" in that chapter.
Dr. Parenti suggests that "the capitalist economy has an overbearing impact upon political and social life."
To Dr. Parenti, the nature of our capitalist economy (wealth v.s. want) has undermined those three fundamental principles of democracy identified in the Struggle for Democracy for the majority of the American people.
You must explain Dr. Parenti's position on wealth and want in the United States.
Then you must explain do you see those influences in some of the 2016 or/and 2020 Presidential elections and or 2018 Midterm election in the United States? Were those three fundamental principles of Democracy violated in any of our presidential or elections?
After answering the above questions you must explain your own position on those issues. Do you agree with Dr. Parenti? Which one of them was more convincing and why? Explain why you agree or disagree with him.
Keep in mind that you must cite specific examples from all assigned chapters and all authors to support your position.

Understanding the various aspects of a democratic government is essential for anyone. Democracy has been one of the forefronts of our modern-day society, although its manifestation may come in different shapes and sizes. Accordingly, representative democracy is one of the forms of democracy in which representatives conduct legislation that the citizens directly or indirectly elect. This democratic system is adopted in various places throughout the world, such as the United States, Philippines, and France, to name a few. In fact, in the United States alone, representative democracy is manifested in all levels, such as the Federal, State, and Local levels, through the election of officials that would represent the sovereign powers of the populace.
Aspects of a Representative Democracy
In the 2019 book written by Greenberg and Page, entitled The Struggle for Democracy, the authors noted that there are three essential or fundamental attributes of democracy, namely; (1) political equality, (2) political liberty, and (3) popular sovereignty.
Political equality refers to democracy that allows the citizens to have the same rights and privileges in the political sphere. In other words, status, lineage, ethnicity, or even educational attainment, among others, cannot give a person preferential treatment under the law. Although this is clearly enshrined in the Constitution under Section One of the Fourteenth Amendment (Equal Protection Clause), some of the most common manifestations of this are in cases of; (1) elections and (2) protection under the law.
On the one hand, political equality is primarily apparent during elections since everyone is only entitled to a single vote despite their status, ethnicity, or other aspects of life. On the other hand, every citizen is also given the same set of fundamental rights regardless of their personal circumstances in their lives.
Another essential aspect of democracy is popular sovereignty. This aspect reminds us that elected officials do not acquire sovereignty over the State but are only conduits of sovereignty that ultimately rests upon the citizenry (Greenberg & Page, 2018).
