Effects of Printing on Intellectual and Cultural Changes in the 16th and 15th Century
A significant effect on the cultural and intellectual change that was brought about by printing in the 15th to 16th century is the invention of modern perspective in humanist mentality. According to Eisenstein (1980), humanists were more focused on traditional poets, which did not have a modern view before the invention of advanced printing. Renaissance humanists have been quoted in various studies to be intellectual. However, their intellectuality did lack modern perceptions. It is, therefore, convincible to argue that printing did affect the Renaissance humanist by providing them with a sense of contemporary perspective. Many studies have also linked the invention of printing to have been the beginning of the new epoch. Therefore since the modern epoch is believed to have begun during the last stages of the Renaissance, it is evident that the printing did influence the emergence of modernity.
The other effect of printing during the Renaissance period was that it influenced the use of the press as a significant medium to gain mass support. Works of literature have argued that the very first attempt where through which print medium was used to get the free help in the war to regain the lost lands from the Muslims. Italian humanists against the Muslim Turks staged this war to recover the holy ground from the Muslim control. This shows how printing affected how information was spread in modern times.
