Requirements for a tool to track a merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS) quality performance
A MIPS is used in adjusting payment depending on performance in four categories; cost, quality, improvement activities, and promoting interoperability. A system can facilitate tracking the quality performance of a MIPS should meet the following requirements;
It should partner with Health IT vendors such as HER for reporting support for MIPS (Doherty, 2015). Eligible clinicians turn to health IT solutions to improve the performance of MIPS and avoid any associated penalties. This also helps in identifying any potential penalties or incentive payments.
Identifying physicians who can champion MIPS performance and education improvements; engaging HER vendors and health IT vendors helps in effective implementation of data analytics and quality reporting tools which ensure that MIPS is successful (Laguna Woods, Tyler, Vice, & Manchikanti, 2017).
