Directed by Alvin Tsang, Reunification is a documentary through which the filmmaker reflects on 17 years of his family. Various contemporary issues affecting the Asian-American immigrants such as family psychology, divorce, and the various immigration policies are explored. His family emigrated from Hong Kong to the United States in the 1980s. A sense of betrayal fueled the move following his parent’s divorce as well as economic difficulties. In his exploration of these 17 years, he takes the audience to the labor and colonial histories of Hong Kong before turning the lens on his own family in search of answers.
