Reflection on Design Thinking

Essay Instructions:

submit your short solo reflection on the week’s readings (500 words max.). With multiple readings, it's okay to dive deeply into one of them. But you're responsible for having read them all well when preparing for the final paper, so best to keep up!

This exercise follows classic components of ‘design thinking’ as identified by Stanford University’s d.school in the reading. We will go through the stages of empathizing with stakeholders (by interviewing them), defining our challenge, ideating, prototyping and testing. We will also iterate (some versions of `design thinking’ offer a simplified but essentially similar process). Each of you will need to combine inspiring words/messages or quotes with imagery designed to inspire one of your team members. Many people have a few inspirational mantras that can serve them as a perk-me-up. This can be nice to have, these days especially, and will use these also to help us all have a chance to get to know each other a little better. The goal of this exercise is to learn how to empathize with other people so that your design would satisfy their needs. The term we will use is `stakeholders’. As such, we will evaluate your work based on how closely it speaks to the identified `needs’ (relevant inspiration) of the stakeholders (the person you will design for). We will practice empathizing by interviewing others and paying a lot of attention to their perspective. Each of you will interview one of your team members, so that everyone will interview, and will be interviewed. Basically, you will take turns interviewing each other. The focus of the interview is to find out what inspires the person you’re interviewing and why. Learn a little bit about them so that you can create an inspiring designed message for them

Week 1 Reflection
This week’s readings reveal that design thinking is a strategy that has bypassed other businesses’ techniques used to communicate and market themselves to customers. It is now the center of interest among employees and entrepreneurs since they often use it to study customer behaviors and induce inferences. Based on evidence from Kolko (2015), the assumptions drawn help employers to learn customer emotional attachments to different designs and act accordingly. The materials collectively illustrate the superiority of this approach in the modern era.
Brands and organizations should accept and anchor themselves on the strategy for ideal outcomes. It is the best tool for attaining success and ensuring that a brand dives into power during its reign, as explained by Fast Company Staff (2016). When effectively incorporated, the tool also serves as a problem solver for achieving outstanding results. Aside from design thinking being significant to enterprises and companies, it is also relevant to communication. Evidence from Stanford University (2018) explains that design thinking assists one in interacting well with audiences by promoting the capacity to scheme inspiring messages and quotes.
