Job Satisfaction vs. Organizational Commitment
According to Ekhsan (2019), having a good career plays an integral role in making a lot of people feel valued or that they are living their purpose. Consequently, I deem job satisfaction to be more important to me. Job satisfaction entails the effective feeling that an individual has towards their job. Some of the components that I regard as important are job security and good working conditions. When I am sure that I will still have my job in the next six months, a sense of satisfaction is generated. Furthermore, I have always wanted to serve humanity in the best way I can. Therefore, when I work in a field where I get to serve humanity, I feel that I am fulfilling my purpose, which gives me job satisfaction.
Conversely, although organizational commitment plays an important role in ensuring a boost in productivity and employee retention, this should not be deemed the most important aspect. Humans need to feel respected at their workplace by their employers and their coworkers (Ekhsan, 2019). Hence, measures should be put in place to ensure that no employee feels disrespected because of their age, work field, gender, or race. When employees feel that their interests are protected, they become happy, which helps them perform better and stay longer in a given organization (Pratama, 2022). Therefore, organizations should aim to ensure job satisfaction among their employees for better productivity and a reduction in employee turnover.
Additionally, job satisfaction has significantly impacted my work performance. First, since I feel appreciated and respected at my workplace, I mostly feel motivated to work hard. Furthermore, I feel more loyal to my company because my interests are protected. Due to this, I get to work on time and even work hard to ensure that I am supporting the company's mission.
