Career Goals in Preparation for a Profession in Social and Community Service
I would like to work as a Social and Community Service Manager after completing my studies and graduating with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree. I have always felt that my calling is to serve the less privileged in society; thus my choice of a career in social and community service. My hope is that this position will give me the opportunity to plan and oversee projects that will benefit the needy in my community. When I search for a job, my goal will be to land one with high compensation rates and life-work balance. Hopefully, the location of the job will cause little disruption to my living arrangements. In the long run, after being in employment for ten years and gaining sufficient experience, I intend to transition into an independent community worker, establish and lead a Community Base Organization. The organization will plan and raise funds for the implementation of social service projects.
Employment prospects in social and community service are promising. The Occupational Outlook Handbook projects that employment of social and community Service Managers is expected to rise by 16% between the year 2016 and 2026. Despite the many opportunities in the field, newcomers to the field with no prior experience in community work are lowly compensated. I will take student internships and volunteer work before I graduate to gain the required experience.
