Unionization is to organize an organization into a labor union that will exercise the right of collective bargaining. Unionization helps employees to bargain their wages, benefits, and working conditions. Unions also offer protection, democratic decision-making, and mutual support and solidarity. Amazon, Starbucks, and McDonald's are in the race to unionization to ensure they have the power of collective bargaining in the future. Unionization of the firms will provide better working conditions to the employees while employers can receive communication from one common point. Although the efforts of unionization of Amazon, Starbucks, and McDonald's have been fought in the past, the United States government has shown support for workers who voted to unionize.
Unionization benefits employees, employers, and the economy in different ways. For instance, workplace health and safety can be achieved through unionization. Employees can have a collective bargain concerning their working environment and are offered better conditions. In most cases, employees are mistreated because they do not have a common channel to air their issues and views (Isidore). Unions can call for strikes when workers are mistreated in their work environment, creating a healthy workplace environment and safety. Equally, unionization leads to high productivity benefiting the employers. Organizations have fewer issues to handle from employees when unions are in place, making workers deliver their high-level best, leading to higher productivity. Similarly, unionization leads to economic growth since there is higher productivity in the organizations. Everyone is at peace, and the unions take charge of their issues which raises production and economic growth. Hence, the aspect of unionization benefits employees, employers, and the economy.
Employees, employers, and the economy will suffer different downsides if workers decide to vote down unionization. First, workers will not have a collective bargaining power making it difficult to air their issues as a unit (Isidore). Hence, workers' issues will take longer to be solved or will not be solved at all. The organization's mandate will be to change working conditions since workers do not have collective bargaining power. Therefore, employees will have unhealthy working environments that will hinder their productivity.
