In Eastwood, authenticity is a means through which an individual of the gang gains legitimacy. There is a great cultural value when a gang member is identified with the cultural values of the group. As Ralph presents it, authenticity implies that a person has gained trust or has attained a certain level, and they understand the ins and outs of the gang's life. If the rapper becomes a celeb, he remains an authentic member by speaking to this critical aspect of the gang life. In this regard, being authentic is understanding the gang lifestyle and maintaining the identity even when one's lifestyle changes. Authentic people are those who understand the secret lifestyle, such as drug dealing and crime engagement.
