Philosophers who focus on environmental ethics, such as Arne Naess, argue that our most pressing problems when it comes to the environment is not the many manifestations of environmental crisis, but rather the persistence of a worldview that is inherently hostile to nature. This is true since human beings consider themselves to be above other living things, and this idea influences their interactions with the environment. Humans believe that the provisions in the environment are primarily meant to facilitate their existence on earth, and as a result, the plants and animals are to be used for the purposes of survival. This notion guides our decision-making regarding developments as well. Majority of the resources required for use in the production of most goods come from the environment. For instance, we use wood from trees to build houses, make furniture, extract rubber, and other requirements. Water is also essential in industrial, manufacturing, construction, and many other processes. People view these resources as a requirement for our survival rather than consider them as part of our surroundings. However, philosophers such as Naess point out that human beings are one with nature, and that humanity is inseparable from nature (Naess 2). This means that rather than considering ourselves as different from nature, philosophers argue that humans should consider their relationship with nature as coexisting. Judging by philosophy, it is clear that human beings should consider the fact that any activity geared towards exploiting nature will have a bounce-back effect on humans. The effect can either be positive or negative based on the activity undertaken.
