1. Define equity as it relates to each of the following:
Equality can be defined as fairness among all in the society regardless of the race, gender, social class and ethnic group of a person. Equality means that there should be no favors to a certain group or discrimination of a certain group. The below terms are related to equality in the following way:Race and Ethnicity- Race can be defined a group of people where certain people come i.e. the blacks and the whites; whereas on the other hand, ethnicity is the community or small group that a person hails from. Equality should exist in all people despite the race and the ethnic group that they may be coming from. No one should be discriminated against because of his race or ethnic groupSocial Class- social class refers to the different status of people in the society. Example, the rich and the poor. There should be equality among all people regardless they are poor or rich. No one should be discriminate against because of his social status. Gender- Gender equality refers to equality in all people regardless of their sexual status i.e. male or female. Therefore, all should receive equal services without gender discrimination or harassmentSexuality- in sexuality, there should be equality in all people and no one should be harassed or given an opportunity in favor of sexual lines. Thus equality should exist regardless of sexuality.
2. We often fail to see our own ethnocentric beliefs, ideas, and behaviors, which result in our oppression of others who are difference from us. Give examples of your own ethnocentric beliefs, ideas, and behaviors that bring about your own oppression of others difference from you.  Ethnocentrism refers to judgment of other people’s culture, religion, believes and values in relation of their own. People may feel that other cultures of people are weird as compared to theirs. The world comprises of different cultures and these cultures have their own beliefs and values that they follow. People may consider their culture, beliefs and norms superior than of others.
For example, I consider my religion superior than other religions in the world, no one can convince me to shift from my religion to another. I feel that my religion is superior as compared to others in the world. According to our culture, we consider circumcision of man as a rite of passage. I see this as a superior culture as compared to other communities in the world that may not prefer it as a rite of passage. Different culture with their different norms and values exist in the world but I consider mine superior to others.3. What makes it difficult for society to move into a more equitable world today?
