Name: Course: Topic: Instructor: 1. Death and dying are often understood from the physical or medical perspective. Is there a social angle to it? How so? Nursing and medical care are both geared at increasing patient care - whether the patient is dying or not. However, while the medical profession seeks to classify humans into various categories of for medical diagnosis then attempt a cure by providing pills, radiation or surgery, nursing as a profession has established itself as an entity that employs a holistic approach that seeks to care for fellow human beings in response to conditions, potential or actual, in a patterned and systematic manner. This therefore means that the patient`s interests must be put first in whatever circumstances that we are faced with at the end of life stage. Of course, there is a social angle to it. As the documentary "Facing Death" suggests at times we are faced with several demands from all quotas. The medical team, the family of the patient and the patient themselves may have conflicting reasoning or demands and this calls for deep thought in the execution of some procedures or decisions. This means that situations as such will need careful deliberation among the family members and the medical team with the patient`s best interests at heart. After all the whole patient care process is all about CARING and nothing else. It is interesting to note that we do not often treat death with great care as we do birth.
