The first three gospel books of the Bible; Matthew, Mark, and Luke are often called the synoptic gospels because they share a common resemblance in how events have been articulated. These books possess distinct information yet having similitude in how they depict the birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Over time, various religious scholars have incepted varied remedies to the synoptic problem. The most relatable and widely acceptable solution is dubbed the “The Four-Source Theory” that seeks to explain the relationship between the Gospels of Luke, Matthew, and Mark (Strauss 31). The theory does maintain the fact that there were at minimum four different sources to the Gospel of Luke and Matthew: the Gospel of Mark as well as three lost sources. The Markan Priority and Two-Source theory also try to solve the synoptic problem.
