Such segments range from music, videos, and other forms of entertainment; learning and education; documentaries; freelancing, among other categories. YouTube stands out as a video-sharing site. YouTube provides people of different ages and preferences a chance to not only watch but also upload videos of their choice. The site provides access to both free videos and subscription videos. This paper looks at music videos as the most prevalent form of videos viewed on YouTube.
Music videos receive the greatest number of views on YouTube. The top 25 most-viewed YouTube videos are largely music videos. In fact, 47 videos that have exceeded one billion views are mainly music videos. The music video Gangnum Style" has remained the most viewed video since 2012, garnering over 2.8 billion views. The video to Justin Bieber's song "Baby" has also surpassed 1 billion views (Pardee and Hubby 1). “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth, “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars, “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift, ) “Bailando” by Enrique Iglesias, “Lean On” by Major Lazer and DJ Snake ft. MШ, and “Hello” by Adele are all music videos that have received over 1.9 billion views. The only exception is the Rusian children's cartoon clip titled "Маша Рё Медведь - Маша плюс каша" translated as “Masha and the Bear” by Get Movies (Pardee and Hubby 1). Katy Perry's "Roar," Maroon 5's "Sugar," “All About That Bass” — Meghan Trainor, are other music viddeos that have received over 1.8 billion views (Pardee and Hubby 1).
