I enjoyed reading The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, Turtle by Kay Ryan, and The Cask of the Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe’s short story is fascinating and talks about two primary characters, Fortunato and Montresor, in an Italian town. The primary themes of The Cask of Amontillado are murder, deceit, and revenge. Montresor appears to trick Fortunato, who is drunk and trapped him in an ancient catacomb. The author uses irony to reveal situations of punishment and judgment. 
“Fortunato had hurt me a thousand times and I had suffered quietly” (Poe 68). At this point, Montresor is expressing anger directed at Fortunato by saying that no one is proud of his name. That is why Montresor wants revenge since he does not think that Fortunato respects him and his honored family. He promised to make Fortunato pay since he had done nothing to cause distrust or doubt. Specifically, the short is interesting since it appears that Montresor holds a grudge against someone who does not know what is happening. Besides, the fascinating thing is that Montresor trapped Fortunato when he was drunk.
Turtle by Kay Ryan is a compelling poem about a turtle. Ryan starts the poem by asking the question, “Who would be a turtle who could help it” (Ryan, Line 1)? The speaker depicts the turtle’s struggles. In particular, it is challenging for this animal to get food, hide from predators, and escape injuries. The problem that this turtle is facing is an allegory of human experience.
