Every time, I would see some people driving a fancy Tesla electric car, I would think what a beautiful happy family. I would be always jealous of them. I had preconceived notions that big houses and fancy cars equate to happy families.
But then I came across some situations in life where I encountered people a lonely life even if they had all the luxuries of life. I was curious to know more. I was curious to know how wealth relates to happiness. As part of my interest in human psychology, I was curious to know if there is a direct positive correlation between wealth and happiness.
Doing some research on happiness, I found that Finland was ranked the top country in the world for Happiness Index. Bhutan, a small country in the foothills of Himalayas is not a rich or powerful country, but its people are still very happy. In the book ‘The Book of Joy’, The Dalai Lama explains how materialistic objects are often pleasurable but only for short periods of time. Happiness is linked to many factors other than wealth – like Family, Social Connections, job satisfaction, health etc.
How you will apply this in practice at Reliance Institute of Technology
I don’t want to judge a book by its cover. Before jumping to conclusions on any topic, I will read some articles, gather and analyses data, talk to subject matter experts. Whenever I have an opportunity to try something out of box, I will take steps to explore.
