“All great dreams begin with dreamers. Never forget that you have within you the patience, strength, and passion it takes to reach for the stars and change the world.” Quoted by Harriet Tubman, one of the most famous abolitionists before the Civil War, I have always used her wise words, which have acted as defining truth about my goals in life. I want to be a fashion designer, and I have the strength, passion, and patience needed to achieve these goals. These goals are not driven by my ambitions to make money off the career, but I can design and make clothes that speak to my audience and hopefully transform their lives. While there are many institutions offering fashion courses and majoring in International Trade and Marketing, the Fashion Institute of Technology, FIT is the only college that can make me accomplish this goal and make a difference in my life. I am aware that only through hard work and dedication do impossible dreams become a reality. Therefore, becoming a fashion designer will become my reality through motivation and self-belief.
My ambitions started after elementary school. Previously, while I was in 4th grade, I knew I wanted to be a creator in the art industry. However, this vision was blurred. Therefore, I tried out construction and architecture, which did not work well. Finally, I fell in love with fashion while in 8th grade when I saw the first fashion show. While I wanted to contribute to the art industry, I never knew I could express art through clothing. This was a life-changing moment whereby I discovered what I would pursue later in life. From that moment, I carried sketchbooks wherever I went just in case...
