The Civil War was mainly between the Northern and Southern states, majorly between the Confederate States of America from the South and the United States of America. The Southern states had left the Union between 1860 and 1861. The leading cause of the conflict was the issue of slavery. Where the southern supported the retention of slavery against the northern abolitionists. The contention centered on the power of the federal government to end slavery and control states on their activities.
While there was division on these issues, the reconciliation arrived because politicians sought to find a lasting solution to the division issue. The main aim was to compromise to ensure the country remained united (Erath, 2015). Both sides of the conflict intended to preserve the union and center on their stance on the issues.
