What Makes the Odyssey So Important to Human Communities?
The Odyssey is one of the most important pieces of literature in human history. It tells people about the development of Greek culture and gives an insight into what life was like for people during this time period. The Odyssey is an epic poem about Odysseus' journey home after the Trojan War. The author uses sense and order, human values, death and life, hospitality and the role of women in society to show how people should act.
One of the reasons the Odyssey is considered an important part of the human community is that it shows how people created a sense of order in their lives. The Homeric world is one where gods and men interact with each other regularly, but it also has an element of predictability to it. The Odyssey shows how people created a sense of order in their lives. The poem shows that there is an order in the universe and that people can take advantage of it by following it. Odysseus understands this principle and uses it to his advantage when he travels home from Troy (Finkelberg 8). The gods have their personalities, and they interact in predictable ways with each other. A lot of the events that occur in the Odyssey are the result of this predictability. For instance, when Odysseus' men eat the sacred cattle of Helios, it is not because they are malicious or evil people; they do not understand that eating these cattle is wrong. The gods will always protect their favorite heroes and punish evil ones. The Odyssey also shows how humans had to rely on each other to survive. Even though Odysseus was alone on his journey home, he still needed people's help to get there safely. Such is depicted in real life, whereby human beings need the support of other people to achieve their set goals.
The Odyssey shows the values of ancient Greek culture. Odysseus is a great example of how human beings should act in society. He was loyal, kind, and brave. He would always do what was right, even if it meant going against what everyone else wanted him to do (Austin 24). The Odyssey is filled with many different themes and ideas. It shows the importance of loyalty and how human beings should be treated. Odysseus was a loyal friend who would do anything for his comrades in arms. He was also kind to everyone he met, no matter how small they were or what race they belonged to. He was also brave. Odysseus had the courage to go into battle and face his enemies head-on. He showed this by fighting the Cyclops and defeating him even though he was just one man against a monster who could easily crush him.
The Odyssey outlines how Greeks thought about life and death and how such perceptions apply to today’s life. Odyssey would always face his fears and do what needed to be done. Odysseus was a hero who acted in a way that people should all aspire to. Such depicts how people should act today, especially when faced with challenging situations. Odysseus was also a great leader. He was able to lead his men into battle and defeat their enemies (West 65). This showed that he had the charisma, intelligence, and strength needed to be a successful leader. Therefore, this depicts the courage people should have ...
