Manuel Fernбndez de Santa Cruz, also camouflaging as Sor Filotea to conceal his true identity and role in eliciting Sister Juana to write her initial letter, christened “Letter Worthy of Athena,” admonishes the latter for the content in her letter. Sor Filotea reprimand Sr. Juana for not using God-given privilege and intellect pursuit religious knowledge. Sr. Filotea’s response comes at a time when the community regarded women as lesser beings.
