They Say, I say, on College Education to Successful Life

Essay Instructions:

This week we will learn about the "They Say I Say" thesis statement. You will use this type of thesis statement in your essay writing.
What to do? Read from the textbook: They Say, I Say, pages: 19-29 and 53-66 to learn the basics. Pay special attention to the templates in each section. The most important thing in these readings is to finish the reading and have a clear understanding of the following:
The “ They say” is the other. This can be the opinion of society, a particular person or any one other than you.
The “I say” is you. This is what you say, your opinion as it relates to the “they say”. Do you agree, disagree or both agree and disagree with the “they say”?
What to do and submit? Now it is your chance to practice the “They say, I say” thesis statement. Choose two of the authors/speakers and then formulate a “They Say, I Say” thesis for each one. Use a template if it is useful and if not, just format the thesis in your own way. Just be sure you have referenced the “they say” first and then added your “I say” as a response to that “they say”. You are now entering the conversation by creating a view and posing it in the form of a thesis statement. Feel free to add a third thesis statement using another author/speaker or your own unique idea for a thesis about higher education for extra credit. Submit 2 thesis statements and a third for extra credit.

They Say I Say Thesis Statement
Introduction “Standard View”
The mentality that assumes college education is the only way people can realize their potential has been debatable. A significant number of individuals across the United States and other parts of the world have achieved their set goals by pursuing a college education. Over the years, researchers have realized that college education is beneficial even for jobs that do not require it. However, student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt. Besides, high unemployment rates, even for people with a bachelor’s degree, have increased steadily over the years. Founders of Microsoft and Facebook are entrepreneurs who prove that a college education is not the only way to live a successful life. Although most people argue that too many people are attending college sounds absurd, I believe it is one of the ways that people become creative and critical thinkers to live a successful life.
Authors Assumptions
According to Murray, while attending college to obtain a bachelor’s degree is essential, not all individuals need such education (Murray 238). Any student who graduated from high school has received the critical insight to live successfully. Therefore, they should have learned all the essential knowledge they need by the time they finish eighth grade. By the time they get to high school, students should focus on the liberal aspect of education by studying science, social science, and humanities courses.
Nemko, the author of the article “We send too many students to college,” argues that graduates are forced to take up the jobs that non-college graduates hold. If students have outstanding academic capability, they should obtain a college education. In such a case, they are more likely to enjoy the lessons since they can handle the various materials. A scholar who fails to appreciate the complex aspects of college is more likely to join vocational training in which the lessons pertain to students&...
