Tensions In Literacy. Expanding & Understanding Of Literacy Practices

Essay Instructions:

Thinking about and expanding your understanding of literacy practices. This might include what Steven Alvarez calls"translanguaging events," or it might include literacy practices that emerge through graffiti writing, service work such as waiting tables (Mirabelli),or attending faith-based institutions (Moss). This chapter illustrates how expansive and diverse literacy practices can be, so for this essay, focus on a moment or moments, of tension between your literacies.
For this assignment, bring your own experiences as a writer (and literacy user) into conversation with the readings. You might get started with one or more of these questions: What are some of the arenas in which you are highly literate particularly arenas you might not have thought about involving literacy before? Are there any tensions between your literacy arenas? How do you navigate various forms of literacy or languaging events? Try and focus specifically on the tensions between these moments. Be specific by illustrating the moments you are describing and reflecting on them alongside the readings from the chapter. Be sure to include a meaningful title and feel free to use "I".
Note: when you think of arenas in which you are highly literate or not, you might also think of different genres of literacy. For instance, a waiter or waitress might be literate in practices such as creating menus, speaking and writing Italian food-based words, taking orders in shorthand, and more. That is, try to think expansively about this topic and the genres you might include throughout.

Reading words on a page has changed to reading on a screen together with sound effects, images, hyperlinks, and color. Therefore, writing in the academic arena has changed, and this requires a new type of understanding to remain relevant today and in the future.
Writing academically is a skill passed from schools and educators, and it has a central role in academics in the world. Firstly, I never thought that academic writing involved literacy to that great extent since I took it as just a simple idea that meant reading and writing. On the contrary, it is an important tool used in communication that passes knowledge in a particular field of study. Academic writing also involves analyzing, critical thinking, conveying the understanding, and main focus on different styles and techniques. Moreover, one must have the ability to analyze from readings and provide only the vital information. Additionally, it helps in explaining what I understand by using the appropriate phrases and writing styles. Academic writing requires having a look at ideas from different perspectives and also leaves room for argument; it also requires learning different theories and writing what I have understood.
According to Cutts( 2015), academic writing should have established routines and practices that are brought about by the quality of teaching principles. Routines and practices build and extend my capabilities as a learner. The appropriate way to view this is by imagining the event of fulfilling several blocks put across in a particular period of time, that are a hindrance to effective academic writing, for example, correct and advanced spelling. For instance, for me to write a good story, I should draft a persuasive essay and do a lot of practice, learning, revision and exploring. The impact is from the practic...
