Social Media
Social media is an integral part of people’s lives, and it is currently viewed as a platform for connecting and communicating with friends and family. Social media has provided me with an opportunity of experiencing numerous memorable moments that have enlightened me and which I continue to cherish every time I log in to these sites. Over the recent years, social media is recognized as a branding strategy, with sports fans following their idols on social media.
Furthermore, social media such as Facebook has provided a wonderful platform for learning about the personal lives as well as the attributes of famous personalities worldwide (Blackburn). Whereas the headlines which are made by sports figures on the social media can be positive, sometimes the information that is made is usually negative. This paper analyses the memorable moments on the social media and how information that appears on my newsfeed has impacted my life.
It should be noted that there are powerful moments that managed to shape the history of social media over the past few years. I do remember my first post on Facebook, and it was awesome since that was the first time I was using this social networking site. Well, the rest is history since the platform has drastically changed with the company changing the appearance of the newsfeed as well as the way people post information (Blackburn). Evidence indicates that since the early days, social media, has been evolving and transforming, becoming one of the most attractive platforms for communication and connecting with other people. Moreover, the way people social networking sites have also changed as more and more individuals become acquitted to these sites.
Generation Z’s (Gen Z) which is currently joining the workforce came into this world when social media was part of the society, compared to their colleague's generation X, Millennial, and Baby Boomers who relied on dial-up modems, snail mail, and letters. Since Facebook was founded, it currently has more than two billion users, which is almost a third of the world’s population. This is an amazing development, and it is difficult even to imagine how people used to survive before Facebook came into the society (Blackburn). The site is used by family members, friends, colleagues, and businesses to access world events. It also ensures that people can remain abreast of the things that are taking place at their doorsteps as well as other events taking place in other parts of the world. I find it astounding to imagine how the world would be like if Facebook and other social networking sites had not captured people’s minds and hearts.
Not only has Facebook amplified college networking and cyber match-making, but it has also drastically transformed the way people communicate irrespective of time and space. This is because it has changed the way people interact and it is challenging for any other social networking site to dislodge Facebook from its current position. The social media is currently recognized as a platform through which people spread information, some of which goes viral....
