Modern Chinese authors illustrate the variations in the cultural meanings of the traditional and contemporary Chinese characters. The research will explore the uncharted territory of relational subjectivity in modern Chinese literature. Besides, it will entail an investigation of ways that writers manipulated narrative texture and structure in presenting a discourse of receptivity and openness. Notably, the research will offer possibilities of locating alternative beginnings for the modern conceptualizations of Chinese. The stories of contemporary Chinese writers, such as Xiao Hong and Lu Xun, contributed to the literary discourse of the period. The writers that this research represents include Xiao Xiao, Xiao Hong, and Eileen Chang, who present hope for the Chinese. The study will introduce a survey of Chinese literature and respective movements, works, and arts.
Besides, the research will reveal the cultural meanings attached to the modern woman and the differences between traditional Chinese female characters. The study will investigate ways that contemporary writers manipulate social aspects, which is different from the conservative female characters. One of the notable differences is that traditional Chinese characters linked relational subjectivity in a generalized epistemological openness (Denton 32). The study will involve an exploration of the possibility that musical elements represent the desire for experience of emotional attachment. One of the core objectives of the research will be offering a re-conceptualization of the modern Chinese subjectivity
The paper will be organized in different chapters based on the themes of the cultural meanings of modern women. Arguably, the recent Chinese authors pursued the adoption of Western enlightenment models and revolutionary collectivism. Therefore, the research will entail a comprehensive analysis of collectivism and individualism. It will explore the literary works of modern women, such as Lust Caution, Xiao Xiao, Xiao Hong, and Raise the Red Lantern film by Zhang Yimou. Accordingly, the research will identify the cultural meanings attached to modern women authors and the differences from the traditional Chinese female characters.
Modern Representation
Eileen Chang’s description as an apolitical writer is evident in her depiction of the position of women in society. In early 20th, the position of women in society still remained a sacred topic. Only a few could explore the topic. Those who attempted the ordeal normally linked the gender space to other significant occurrences such as the Japanese-Chinese war. "Lust, Caution" is one of Chang’s works that explores the representation of the modern woman in art. The plot is set in 1938, China. This is a duration when Japan had invaded China and the Chinese were desperate to revolve against the incursion. The ensuing plot follows in the actions of Wong Chia Chi, a university student who is broiled at the center of delivering the Chinese. The antics would showcase the representation of modern women in Chinese art and the evolving cultural inclination.
