For a long time, Cubans have fought for their rights, and it took them a while to gain recognition as a country, but it finally happened. The state did not have good leadership at the beginning, which worsened the situation. The Cubans were taken for granted, and they faced opposition before and even after they gained their independence.
I believe that the U.S government and other governments took advantage of this country because they were hardworking. They were capable of improving the economic condition of any country, which contributed to their colonization (Bedolla, 2009). The government of the U.S tried to buy Cubans from Spain.
It shows that the Cubans had no say, and their lives were controlled with any country that had money. In my opinion, the reason Cuba has grown over the years and has many achievements is because of what its people faced. Mistreatments and harsh living conditions tend to make the victims resilient.
Even with the introduction of the Platt Amendment, which was supposed to deliver the Cubans from colonization, it still supported the government of the U.S in Cuba. It took them a long time to become independent because they were reliant on the U.S for some of their needs. They tried to oppose the amendment, but they eventually gave in after they failed.
In my view, the United States government helped Cuba because they were hoping to gain control of the country again. They accessed what they needed at the expense of their freedom. The Cuban people were forced to go with the Americans to war in exchange for their help. It was still recent that the Cubans gained independence, and they are doing well even without other countries' support.
