The Task
This week there are two parts to your tutorial task.
Part 1
In the lecture this week, you were asked to look up the journal Progress in Human Geography through the library

and compare the contents of the 2019 issues. PIHG is the leading disciplinary journal in human geography.
On the library home page, type the journal title into the search field and access one of the options to access the journal online (we recommend ProQuest)
Once you are on the journal site, under 'Choose an issue to view', select 2019
There were six issues between February and December, which collectively represent volume 43 of PIHG
You need to collect some metadata from the issues, so be ready to take some notes as you work through them.
Working systematically through the issues for 2019, answer the following questions:
How many papers were published in all of the issues in volume 43?
Using the subdisciplinary classification scheme provided by Chris Gibson in Table 1 (p. 220) of his 2009 paper on human geography, classify each paper in each issue into a subdisciplinary type.
Compare your result with Gibson's data for the period 2003-2007. You will need to convert the raw numbers to % in order to standardise the two datasets. Has the focus of papers being published in PIHG changed over the past decade or so?
Part 2:
Read Chapter 1, Introduction, especially pages 3 – 5 (from the subheading Introducing political geography) in Agnew, J et al, (2015), The Wiley Blackwell Companion to Political Geography, 2 ed, Chichester UK.
Outline the phases in the evolution of political geography as described by Agnew.
