In the reading, several interesting facts have changed with human civilization. In Week 4 Reading, the author provides a history of Chicago’s sewerage system, an underground innovation conceptualized by Ellis Chesbrough. While this was one of the most ambitious engineering works of the 19th century, which has been replicated globally, the early 1870s was muddled with a plethora of health challenges such as diseases contaminating water supplies (Week 4 reading 95). These bottlenecks called for a review of earlier works on the germ theory to prevent people from water-borne diseases. Besides achievements such as the high-speed Internet cables and underground trains, the author presents an interesting piece about how science develops through inquiry to debunk old hypotheses and theories for human development.
