PERSONAL UNDERSTANDING OF PLAGIARISM AND ACADEMIC HONESTY
As today’s world becomes immensely immersed and dedicated to pursuing the advancement of the comfort of the people, researchers and advocates are creating the best framework or researches. In regards to this concern, the main problem is plagiarism. Plagiarism is getting written ideas from certain people and writes it as if it is one’s one idea – there is no acknowledgement of the rightful owner; example with this is getting views, researches, essays, or experiments from the book and especially the internet and one did copy the original thought word by word – this is a prohibited practise since it is considered stealing of one’s thoughts and ideas. Plagiarism is disrespectful and unlikely; one must always acknowledge the source if chose to take the article, essays, researches, and a lot of writings.
Academic honesty on the different side is the contrary of plagiarism. Being a writer or an individual who values integrity and honesty is an individual of sound principles. Academic honestly is nevertheless a best practice for oneself because this means that one must write only with his or her own words; there must be no copyright infringement from other academic papers and all writings of other individuals. If one prefers to cite or highlight an idea from other writers, intellectual honesty must put the owner or the writer on the paper. In the traditional method of teaching, paraphrasing is still widely used by the academicians, where the instructor asks the students to summarize a particular document. Academic honesty becomes a basis of how people in the academe or workplace are going to trust their employees or professionals; having a good sense of responsibility, respect, and honesty builds a good impression; to value academic honesty also honed one’s skill to prioritize originality.
WHAT IS CULTURAL RELATIVISM
The world is long and wide enough for cultures to become diverse. It is evident to everybody the existence of different races that grows various practices of cultures and tradition. This means that an individual’s choices in significant decision making or just daily ventures are being affected by the beliefs or principles that he or she has. In this case, deciding things that do not seem to fit other’s perspectives will never make an individual less of a human; there shall be no prejudices and judgments – this is called cultural relativism. Understanding one’s beliefs and the things he or she is related to is essential; people get influenced by their principles, and this is where cultural relativism occurs – this becomes the basis of how an individual be understood and interpreted by the actions and decisions one show. Cultural relativism is bias-free and will enable the people to be open in the diversity that this world had given; if not practised, otherwise, people tend to draw lines between races which are unjust (Howson, p.1).
