Advertisements play a significant role in the promotion and marketing of products and services across the different sectors of economy. Advertising platforms such as newspapers and magazines have been used to influence the purchasing decisions of consumers in the United States and around the world. The advanced information and communication technology further transforms the art of advertising owing to the wide range of internet platforms coupled with enhanced graphic and designing technologies. Nevertheless, traditional means of advertising are still in circulation and make use of the advanced technologies in creating or developing the equally diverse forms of advertisements (Koksal, pg. 79). Advertisements often take the form of images of a given product or simulations reflecting the use of a product or service provided by a given business organization. Such advertisements would serve to provide detailed information to consumers about various features of the product and services offered and thus create an appeal to the consumers as a whole. Business organizations also tend to create or amplify the consumers’ need for a given product through the advertisements made across different platforms (Koksal, pg. 80). The images and videos used in advertisements are often supported by either written or verbal communication, which further evokes positive reactions from the consumers upon their effective application. A display newspaper advertisement published by the Washington Post on 1st December 1995, highlights some of the elements of pictorial advertisements and their distinct roles in influencing the consumers’ purchasing decision over the displayed products.
