The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) harassment scandal is not surprising. Five different male coaches of the so-called best league globally had been fired within the past four months for reasons such as alleged verbal abuse, racist remarks, sexual misconduct, and toxic work contexts (Azzi). The league leaders, coaches, and club owners have constantly framed it as the ideal women's football association globally. According to the agenda-setting theory, people wielding power to disseminate news has the capacity to determine the relevance of information within public domains (Stern, Livan, and Smith 1). The NWSL leaders had been simply framing the league as the best in the world to prevent the horrendous news about rampant off-field abuse and misconduct allegations from reaching mainstream society.
