Introduction
Shakespeare's character Othello is great and weak. In his own words, he regards himself as 'an honorable murder' (5. 2. 295). Othello is an African foreigner who has worked his way up in the Venetian defense forces to a general via excellence in battle. He is married to Desdemona, a white woman in Venice. His command in the play displays him as an intelligent, skillful, courageous, and respectful leader. Othello is the main character of Shakespeare's play Othello who is motivated by two major emotions that arise from personal interests and the circumstances surrounding him throughout the play.
Othello has two significant motives that fuel his ambition. At the beginning of the play, he is not as active as Iago, and Roderigo refers to the character as him or himself. As his character becomes clear, they refer to him with racial epithets such as 'the Moor' (1.1.57) and "an old black ram" (1.1.88). Othello, an outsider who exploits, becomes easy prey for some like Iago and attracts admirers like Desdemona and her father. Brabanzio loves him completely, finds his life stories intriguing, and questions him about the "from year to year" (1.3.129). He is motivated by his strong love for Desdemona. He is determined to build the rest of his life with her, so he plans to elope with her. At this point, he is ready to do anything for his newly found wife out of love. Besides, as a visitor in Venice, Othello is attracted to the fine life. He falls in love with Venice and works hard to live a fine life like the Duke of Venice.
