Identify the qualities of notable “mothers” in the readings; why is the mother of Meng Ke (Mother Meng) being singled out for praise? Did she uphold female interests or male interests?

Reflection: Mother Meng
The mother of Meng Ke, Mother Meng, serves as a good example for the qualities that every woman should do as she deals with her family. First, Mother Meng was wise in respect to the place where she brought up her child. According to the Biographies on the Deportment of Mothers, Mother Meng moved three times from the places she was living as a way of influencing her son’s interests in a positive way. She started by moving out of the cemetery where she initially lived, followed to a shift from the market place and ended up living near the school. She was also a peacemaker who sought the best for his family; even when her son was already grown. He plays a motherly part by siting his son down and pointing out his mistake and later, a solution on how to restore his marriage which was crumbling.
Mother Meng also played an advisory role towards her son, encouraging her to go to school and study as a means of securing his future. As he did so, she also catered for his physical needs by providing her with food, clothing and shelter through her weaving and thread spinning activities.
