Collaborative Writing
Most researches on writing base its discussion on individual writing; on which the explanation gives the process of writing as an individual. There are scenarios in which writing has to be done as a team, especially to researchers working on a particular project and need to compile it as one piece of work. Before coming together and launching a particular project as a team, team members need to have a thorough discussion to have a clear understanding of the intentions of the task ahead. This discussion focuses on collaborative writing, how it is done, challenges that can be experienced and how to solve them.
Topic selection is vital, and the team needs to have a cognitive process that will result in an essential topic to work on. Storch and Neomy (p3) assert that the best way is for the team to come together with free minds to have a thorough discussion on the topic. Areas of weaknesses that need to be worked have to be identified, which develops the idea to work on a much more focused area. After getting a more central area to focus on for study, a topic has to be proposed. Teevan and his team supports that choosing an epic topic is vital as it quickly attracts the interest of the reader, which is achieved by members freely choosing the favorite topic among the proposed ones.
Group writing poses a lot of differences from writing as an individual. As discussed above, group writing is interactive based, and the members brainstorm on ideas as they collectively contribute to the work.
