“Dear Millennials, We’re Sorry:" Identifying and Evaluating Evidence
Issue and Conclusion
The main issue in Bruni’s article is that the aging generation being unfair to the upcoming generation, which he refers to as the Millennials. The issue is: Does the aging population care about the Millennials? The main idea that Bruni wants the reader to accept is that young people are falling victims of poor choices that the older are making. He sums this into the statement “bashing Millennials,” implying that the upcoming generation does not have the freedom it deserves. The old claim that they are concerned about the future of their children, but they are living as if they are the future. Bruni writes “…We question their willingness to hunt for work outside their comfort zones…” referring to how the old are doing everything to tame the freedom of young people. It would have been better if the old reflected and realized that all the troubles that young people go through including high college fees and high unemployment rates are failures of the aging population.Identifying Evidence
* The aging population is doing little to address the problem of climate change. The Obama administration proposed measures to reduce carbon emissions by 30%, but people will have to wait longer to see whether Congress will approve the budget. This evidence is based on a fact. * The government I was spending more in yesterday claims that it cares for the future generation. "…My twelve-year-old son is…but if you look at the spending, you would think I am the future." Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid have been taking a big chunk of the federal budget, leaving very little for addressing issues that affect future generations. This evidence is based on a fact. The author cites data from Congressional Budget Data.
