How to Live a Meaningful Life. Literature & Language Essay

Essay Instructions:

This final mini-essay assignment will take the place of a regular final exam. I would like you to use this opportunity to reflect on the themes of meaning and value in life, in connection with the philosophical ideas we have learned about over the course of this semester. I would like this to be a fairly open ended writing assignment - this is an opportunity for reflection and discussion.
Here are some of the kinds of questions you may choose to focus on in your discussion (you don't need to address all of these, these are just some questions that can get you started in your discussion): What does it mean to lead a meaningful life? Can life have objective meaning, or is life ultimately meaningless? What is the connection between God/religion and meaning - could life be meaningful if there is no God? What is the connection between meaning and some of the other philosophical concepts we have learned about, such as knowledge, free will, and morality?
