Again, as you read, annotate the text; in other words, as you go along, write comments, questions, responses in the margins of the text.
Once you have finished the story, fast write for ten minutes either in your journal or in your google doc. Remember to write the date and the assignment.
Then I’d like you to write a letter to Octavia Butler and tell her the story of an experience you have had. Your 2-3 page letter to Octavia Butler should tell a story from your own experience- something you’ve experienced directly or indirectly that you were reminded of after reading her story. You do not necessarily have to explain the connection of your story to hers.
Copy out one paragraph from your diagnostic and rewrite it.
Create a 3 song mixed tape, so to speak, or a discography of three songs about rain or connected to sounds of speech and post the links in the forums or embed them.
After you have posted your discography listen to at least two other people’s songs posted in the forums and write a substantive response that is at least 3-4 sentences long.

Greetings,
After reading your story, Speech Sounds, it rekindled an incident that affected my family and has since left us in a deplorable state. Thank God my family has not given up. I hail from a humble background that is not rich. We are a nuclear family of five, my parents and my two siblings. My parents can only afford basic needs and a few luxuries from the earnings they make from their work. The economy is not favorable to people of our caliber and is why we have not had many developments economically as a family. Nonetheless, my family was determined to beat the odds and grow wealthier through business before the devil intervened to stop our success.
In 2011, my parents invested all their savings in an electronic shop. Electronic business is a booming trade that keeps on appreciating; thus, my parents were sure we would be better positioned after ten years of re-investing profit into the business. The business was doing well, and by 2016 my father was already giving us the best hope there is about how we will be living a vanished life if the business continues with the same spirit for the next five years. My sister kept on fantasizing about how life will change from good to better and best.
In February 2017, a fire accident broke out from the mall where our business was located. Our business was in a very strategic location just at the mall entrance next to a petrol station. Unfortunately, the fire started at the opening of the mall next to the petrol station. People say the person who started the fire wanted to destroy the petrol station, meaning our shop was a victim of other people's disputes.
