THESIS STATEMENT
Hedda Gabler is a realistic drama that depicts newlyweds who are victims of societal issues through manipulative and unhappy villains. In his drama, Ibsen inspects the relationship between aristocracy and bourgeois: moral responsibilities, feminism, and the role of women in the community. Schemes in the play enable the audience to paint a picture of the societal ideals and physiological pressure that women put up with accepting her actions of being evil rather than rejecting the character.
ARGUMENT #1- Power and Influence
INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT
The movie is a better way of understanding themes in the play, such as power and influence, since it is a major critique of people’s interest in a certain good. The movie explains Hedda’s power and influence when she wants happiness due to her good marriage and a home. She took pride in that and can be seen in the movie through her attitude and lifestyle. The director’s message was centered on language critics regarding perverted feminism. While most characters desire power and influence for practical reasons, Hedda appears to want to control and manipulate people on the spur of the moment, as if she merely wants to relieve the terrible monotony of her life by making people suffer for no reason than she could ever.

Many of the characters are motivated by a desire for power. Whether a character is striving to escape someone else’s authority, achieve power for themselves, or both, a power struggle is a common recurring event in literature. Hedda is torn between influencing people and her social standing.
QUOTE
In act one, the character Hedda and Jorgen Tesman are having a conversation over General Gabler’s pistols.
“Hedda: Oh, well…I’ve got one thing at least that I can pass the time with.
Tesman: Oh, thank the good Lord for that! And what might that be, Hedda? Eh?
Hedda: My pistols… Jörgen.”
In act two, Hedda and Judge Brack display power and influence.
“Brack: But my dearest lady, how could you do such a thing! To that harmless old soul!
Hedda: Oh, you know how it is…these things just suddenly come over me. And then I can’t resist them. Oh, I don’t know myself how to explain it.”
