Puberty hits boys and girls differently. This stage brought various changes to one’s physical, emotional, and cognitive being which is very noticeable at this time. This period involves middle school years (from grades 6 to 8) and some high school year (from grades 9 to 12) which are considered to be “tough years.” However, the study shows that girls develop ahead of boys in almost every area. The issue of single-sex schools or classes has been an on-going debate among educators to determine if this separation will improve the academic performance of students and if both groups can benefit from it. Same-sex schools offer both pros and cons for students as they grow and develop into young adulthood.
According to statistics, the male often outnumbers female students in the classroom as seen in public schools from prekindergarten to senior year of high school. There are reports of girls experiencing various kinds of inequities in mixed classrooms. This disproportionate statistic has led others to believe that it can be beneficial to separate genders from each other. Single-sex education refers to segregating boys and girls in terms of education and has been becoming popular among private and public schools. This boom is due to the recent study that found out how boys and girls learn differently. This triggered multiple sectors in society and involved concerns such as civil rights, socioeconomic, legal, and political concerns.
