In what way does "stuff" or the pursuit of stuff fulfill us? How much stuff do we really need? How important is stuff in your own life? What does our stuff say about us? The aforementioned are a sample of questions you might chose to explore and answer in an essay of 750+ words.
Or you may want to explore other forms of consumerism other than the material thinks we purchase and or collect, such as education we pay for, fast food, beer, etc.
The key is to focus on what we as individuals and a culture consume that go beyond necessities how such consumption affects us, and the possible ramifications and consequences of such consumption, not to mention the most important question: Why?
At some point you'll likely make a generalization regarding American consumerism and what that says or doesn't say about American culture or a more specific subculture that reflects your focus.
While the topic is somewhat limited, there is quite a bit of freedom as to how you choose to approach the subject. You may focus on a specific consumer good, or a category of consumerism.
At this essay you are required to offer multiple examples to support what you say: these examples may come from personal experience and observations, but I would like you to include at least one statistic and one researched(outside) source, which can include information from a brief interview or from print or Web media.

Currently, the world is drenched on material goods and services and better standards of living. People are able to live longer and they have access to ever more sophisticated entertainment, modes of travel, and means of communication. We are the greatest consumers in the world yet sometimes we seem less happy and anxious, the question is, is our consumer culture becoming a curse instead of a cure? The increase of industries in the United States has given people the opportunity to consume more goods as never before (Reichl, 79). Families in rural America have greater opportunities to purchase a variety of product that before at decreasing prices. One of the common basic needs of human beings is food among other resources. Food is linked to the ability to reproduce and provide for our families. During the pre-agricultural period, a single family could make or gather enough food in order to make further consumption more undesirable. The food we eat gives our body the materials and Information needed to function properly. If our bodies lack food, metabolic processes suffer and our health deteriorates as a result (Carroll, 157). However, if we get too much food, then our bodies give wrong instructions like we become undernourished, overweight and we are at the risk of other development diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, and arthritis. In short, people mainly eat for their health. The nutrients found in food enable our bodies to perform their functions. Nutrients are very important for physical functioning. They are also essential for growth, maintenance of the body and its development. According to the United States Bureau of Labor, people spend 90 minutes every day on food. This includes grocery shopping, preparation, consumptions and doing dishes (Reichl, 150).
