As an entertainer Beyoncé has few rivals, a superstar with a well recognizable brand on her own. Even before her marriage to Jay-Z she was still recognized in the pop and R&B circles. Despite being a ‘diva’, she is approachable yet modest of her accomplishments. This makes Beyonce an interesting entertainer because even as she embodies star power she is easily accessible (Strauss). Even as Beyonce has become famous for her singing, she has also been involved in acting projects and has been recognized as a fashion icon (Short).
I chose Beyoncé (Queen Bey) as an entertainer, based on her dynamism and great performance, having begun performing from her mid teens and now in her mid thirties. Beyoncé has cemented her place as a music icon with five No. 1 albums, and having received more than 50 Grammy awards nominations (Short). Besides having a loyal fan base, Beyoncé has highlighted social and political issues even when it creates controversy. Beyonce has been criticized for her stance on ‘police brutality’ on her song Formation, and despite emphasizing the need to empower woman she has been disapproved by some feminists (Martin).
Beyoncé’s mainly targets African-American women, but she has transcended this and managed to legions of fans who listen to pop music. To highlight her star power and influence is that she has managed able to create a recognizable brand, while also collaborating with different artists (Kot). Beyoncé’s fifth album was released through iTunes, and this garnered interest without using the traditional marketing tactics.
