Reflection of Inside the Economist - Meet the Editor-in-Chief
The Webinar is all about a journalist, Helen Joyce, going through the cover page of The Economist pieces with Manny Minton Beddoes. Her team managed to put it together from the start of the pandemic. The pieces cover the pandemic from a variety of angles, with the first majoring on the possibility of a cold war between the West and China despite the rise of China to become the second-largest economy. There seems to exist trust issues between China and the West, especially in terms of trade. In a global environment that is increasingly becoming more and more divided due to the competition between the East and the West, many things are bound to happen. Besides the rift between the West and China, the other successive pieces try to foresee the effects of the pandemic before they occur, like its likeliness of becoming a pandemic, the U.S. election amid the pandemic, the pandemic effects in Britain, among several other topics relating the COVID-19 pandemic with the economy. Interestingly, one piece about climate change gets to break the pandemic monotony of COVID-19 in The Economist.
