In a study entitled “The making of an expert,” Anders Ericksson, Michael Prietula, and Edward Cokely examine if there are any gender differences that influence the development of an expert. In the past, it was assumed that women could not succeed in fields such as chess that require spatial thinking. However, such perception was refuted after Laszlo and Klara Polgar trained their daughters to become some of the best chess players in the world.
Subsequent scholars have established that IQ alone is not intrinsically related to expertise in fields such as sports, chess, or music.
