The rise in advocacy for women rights and equality globally has fostered the shift from culturally toxic traditions that discriminated against women to giving women a voice in society. In the past, very few Asian women attended secondary, university or got employed. For instance, between the year 2000 and 2016, female enrollment in tertiary education in Asia increased by 41 million CITATION UNE18 \l 1033 (UNESCO). In Thailand, South Korea, and Hong Kong, secondary-school enrollment is almost at par for both sexes. High educational outcomes in women have increased their employability rate. More women in Asia work for wages contrary to the past where women were family care givers. For example, in South Korea, women are heavily employed in service sectors, manufacturing and sales.
