For this media analysis, you will analyze how one part affects the whole media production. To do so, you will choose one of the following parts to explore: Genre: Explain how the production you chose fits into its genre. Camera: Analyze how the camera's use affects the overall production. Lighting: Describe how lighting is used to enhance or detract from the production. Actors/Characters: Analyze how the actors OR the characters themselves enhance or detract from the production. Symbols: Explain what the symbols are and how their usage affects the overall production. Music: Describe how the music enhances or detracts from the media production. Sound Effects: Analyze how the sound effects enhance or detract from the production. Special Effects: Explain what special effects are used and how they affect the viewing experience. Comparison to a Literary Work: (Note: This option may only be chosen if the film you chose is also in print form.) How are the book and film similar? How are they different? Which is better, and why? Your purpose in this assignment is to explain how or why something works; therefore, you should not include a summary of the media production except for the introductory paragraph if you so choose. The body of the essay must focus on your analysis, and you can use the ideas contained in the Media Analysis lesson presentation and/or the Straighterline's Writer's Handbook chapter (“Film and Television Analysis”) to help you. As with all college writing, your essay should have a strong thesis statement in addition to an introduction, body, and conclusion. External sources, other than your chosen film, television show, and/or book, are not required for this essay. However, if you use specific information from the media production and/or print source, such as a quotation, you should include a Works Cited page and proper parenthetical citations or signal phrases.Since it will be nearly impossible to write an analysis without quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing your text, be sure to include MLA documentation and a Works Cited page for this assignment. Television production is a system of interrelated components such as genre, lighting, camera, symbols, characters, sound effects, music, special effects and comparison to a literary work. Each component has a role to play and affect production in one way or another. Either a professional video camera or motion picture camera is used on set. Each shot that makes a scene is independently taken. However, single camera production is the most common alternative production method. Two cameras are normally used in production: one captures a close up while the other captures a medium shot of the scene during the same take (Zettl 45-47). This helps in saving time. Production of action films normally make use of three or even more cameras to aid in capturing numerous angles because scenes of action take much time though a few minutes of footage. This paper seeks to analyze how the camera`s use affects the overall production.
Camera`s use affects the overall production. This is because cameras play the greatest role in the media production. The camera`s use affects the entire production right from the first shot to the last footage mainly because of the image effects that will eventually be disclosed to the audience. A cinematographer or a photographer who makes movies or still photographs can control the effect that the image will eventually portray to the audience. One way through which camera use affects production is the camera angles for defined purposes. Cinematographers or photographers do not just take photos or shoot movies by accident; they have a great deal of thoughts about what and how the audience will view the images and the eventual effect on the viewers (Zettl 48-50).
