Birth Control Source Evaluation. Literature & Language Essay

Essay Instructions:

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate two sources, which means to explain why they are strong, credible sources to use for your research paper. You should ask yourself this question: would I use these resources in a research paper. Why or why not?
2. Use the topic that you have chosen to research. Your topic should focus on a particular "problem" that you have identified in our society/community. For example, Take one article that you found in the library, and then find another source by doing a Google search. You can use any website or online source for the second article. The point of the exercise will be to find out which source is more trustworthy than the other source.
3. Compare and contrast these two sources. To do this, you will write a paragraph about each of them. For each paragraph, you will explain the source’s argument, the strengths and weaknesses of the argument, and what research and sources the article used. You can write a short (2-3 sentences) summary of the helpful information the argument provides. You can also use direct quotations for this paper. However, you should focus most of the paragraph on what makes this a source that you can trust and that you find convincing, or a source that you CANNOT trust. Use the CRAAP test linked on your D2L page to come up with your evaluation of the sources. In your conclusion, you will say which source you think makes a better argument on the topic and why.

Birth Control Source Evaluation
Introduction
In the articles “Advocacy coalitions, policy stability, and policy change in China: The case of birth control policy, 1980–2015” and “Population control policies and fertility convergence,” birth control in the United States, Europe, and China is discussed at length with regards to population surge and related policies. Li, the author of “Advocacy coalitions, policy stability, and policy change in China: The case of birth control policy, 1980–2015” focuses on how the “one child per family policy” in China has been impacted by the political class and western trends since the 1980s. On the other hand, De Silva, the author of “Population control policies and fertility convergence” explores how the rapid growth of population in developing countries resulted in the fear of a population explosion leading in the establishment of the global population-control program. Based on the CRAAP criteria, Li’s article is superior to De Silva’s because not only is it written by reputable authors; it contains credible, current, and accurate information.
Li’s article is current as it was published last year (2019). The article appears in Policy Studies Journal, a peer-reviewed academic journal managed by Policy Studies Organization and whose aim is to advance the study of policy analysis by publishing journals that can be used by governments to formulate policies. The intended target of Li’s article is the Chinese public, government, and any other person interested in comparing and contrasting birth control policies in China and the West. The information presented by the article is based on facts, especially the one child per family policy and the U.S Supreme Court ruling in the case of Griswold v. Connecticut (1965). The article will provide contradicting birth control policies because China and the West differ significantly in this area. Li and his fellow author, Wong, are both professors at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in the Department of Governance and Public Administration. Wong is also a faculty member of the Department of Public Administration at Syracuse University and a visiting scholar of Harvard University and Brookings Institution. Currently, Wong serves as the East Asia regional editor of the Asian Journal of Political Science. T...
