The Women’s Swimming Pool centers on a girl's journey from her rural home to Beirut. Throughout the narrative, the audience can deduce how the social and political happenings cause loss and frustrations in her life. Women of girl's origin are disadvantaged. The religious values perpetrated within the rural homes are very different from the values exhibited in Beirut city. In the rural home, the girl is limited to work within the confines of the tent. This shows the differences between the city life and her experiences back in her rural home make her feel anxious.
When the girl decides to go to the swimming pool, her grandmother is against it because it goes against the customs and religious values of their rural areas. This made her anxious because she was not comfortable with the environment. Moreover, most of the girls at the swimming pool were wearing clothes that would be regarded as indecent in their rural home.
