Religion as a Catalyst of Change
Religion has positively influenced people globally. Socially, religion strengthens family units, individuals, and communities through religious celebrations and the unison recitation of their doctrines. It has reduced crimes and social misconduct as most religions teach good morals and punishes evildoers. Religion has enabled a stable community as people can coexist peacefully and with tolerance. Even though culture is the basic unit of a community, religion has positively influenced culture by changing some cultural practices. For example, the condemnation of female circumcision for some communities, abolishing slavery, and women being allowed to vote, which was against some communities, are positive changes influenced by religion. Also, religion influences political decisions when laws are being formulated or introduced to the people. The law must be following the people’s way of life. A government that performs well honors the faith and religion of its people.
