Film Analysis: Titanic
In writing this paper, I chose Titanic as the film I intend to analyze. The director of the film is James Cameron. The plot of the movie is about an actual ship. Love is the central theme in Cameron’s movie. My reason for choosing this film emanates from the director’s ability to use imagery, metaphors, and suspense in the story. Moreover, Cameron portrays how the rich received better services in the ship as compared to those who sat at the second-class section. Arguably, this relates to the segregation of black people because of their skin color during the colonial period. The movie begins by portraying second-class citizens surrounding the boat as they waited for their turn to board. Conversely, the second-class rooms did not have any beautiful artwork or ceramics as compared to those in first class. Moreover, the rooms in the second-class section were half the size of a first-class bathroom. Notably, the film is one that focuses on the reinvestment of the past.
Despite their social differences, Jack and Rose fall in love. Their union causes conflict within the ship since the parents of Rose do not want to see her speaking to a person below her social class. For that reason, the duo is forced to hide so that they can have a chance to grow their love. Jack's determination to fight for his feelings towards Rose is an explicit indication of how humans suffering from financial setbacks are ready to compromise and fight for what they deem best. The theme of love between Jack and Rose is an indicator that love has no limits. Notably, the topic of alienation between Jack and Rose when boarding the ship highlights the plight African Americans had to endure during the 19th Century. It is obvious that the film impacted the world in different ways and so did it impact my personal life. It touched my feelings in regards to how fragile life is and death. I also started to realize how warm people get when discussing the film and the same started happening to me. My eyes always light up when I see or hear any analysis of the movie.
