Since the Song Dynasty period was characterized by a strong, complex social organization and administrative sophistication, the neighboring state also needs to have a strong political organization. During the Song Dynasty period, the main system of recruiting officials was the civil service system. For a neighboring state to survive the strength of the Song Dynasty, the leader needs to put in place a complex political organization that concentrates on the dynamic interactions that do occur within that state. Through a complex political organization, citizens of the neighboring state will become more adaptable to both external and internal pressures from the Song Dynasty, whose main focus is to overtake the state. A complex political system will be useful to the neighboring state to the Song Dynasty as it will assist the state in having an understanding of the best ways to respond to attacks from the Song Dynasty. The entire political system in such a state will be well prepared from the troubles caused by the Song Dynasty. A complex political system provides to the state an important framework that makes it understand how to deal with the turbulent environment being brought by the Song Dynasty.
