Luciano Pavarotti sings "Nessun dorma"
Pavarotti sings “Nessun dorma” one of the tenor arias in opera and the tenor signature piece manages to highlight the right notes and the orchestra harmoniously connects the performer with the music. Pavarotti’s vocal volume and ranges allows him capture the audience and he engages different senses to connect with the audience. "Nessun dorma" is based on the opera Turandot where the royal subjects who sleep and fail to discover the name of Calaf who is Princess Turandot’s suitor.
The song has a simple structure and melody, but Pavarotti’s passion shows he understands the importance of the post-Romantic operatic tradition in broadening the appeal of classical opera. Nessun dorma was made for verismo opera where the delivery of performances is dramatic and strong, and based on a storyline. The opera approach was also associated with portraying realistic events, but in the performance on does not need to know the storyline to appreciate Pavarotti‘s performance. The type of music is appropriate for tenor voices such as Pavarotti‘s as even the orchestral texture complement the voice.

El misterio de la macabre (Le Grand Macabre) by Hungarian composer György Ligeti is a libretto opera performance. The score is modern in the orchestral part but also harmonious evven as there are sudden changes of the lyrical contents. Ligeti, created a libretto that was less difficult and complex than the original opera, but still challenging to the performers. Nonetheless, Barbara Hannigan’s performance captures the essence of the opera piece as she has good voice control, which captures the mood of the song. Both the soprano performer and the orchestra capture the sensuality of the song and make the performance enchanting.
